Dance. It permeates every culture and has existed in some form as long as we have. As choreographer Martha Graham once remarked, “Dance is the hidden language of the soul;” and there is an ancient Indian saying, “To watch us dance is to hear our hearts speak.” For thousands of years people have been quoted, attempting to define the indefinable. There exists a dancer within us all, and the feeling one gets while dancing cannot be described – only experienced. Exhale Studio endeavors to give that opportunity to everyone, offering disparate styles of dance to suit varied tastes. Dance is art in motion; come and participate in this form of self-expression that will leave you feeling confident, happy, and free.
Dancing has been proven to relieve stress and improve self-esteem. Dancing burns fat and calories, yet also increases body awareness, making you more comfortable with the body you have and giving you the confidence to flaunt it. Dance improves strength, endurance and flexibility. Dance helps people accept and love their bodies, and express themselves through movement. Most of all, dancing is fun! Meet new people, move to the music, and let loose after a busy day in an environment where everyone is accepting and free to be silly.
At Exhale Yoga Pilates Dance Studio, the drop-in dance classes cater to beginner dancers, unless indicated otherwise, but are open to all levels. More intermediate and advanced dancers will still enjoy, because they will get a great workout. The pre-registered dance classes are progressive. Dance classes at Exhale Studio are built around having a good time while working on your technique, and new students are always welcome. So don’t be afraid to try something different! Above all, our instructors want you to have fun and get fit at the same time!
Be sure to inform your instructor prior to class of any injuries. Should you feel that certain moves are unavailable to you that day, do not push yourself more than you feel comfortable. Regular practice of pilates and yoga can reduce the likeliness of injury in dance and other activities, but our dance instructors are all experienced and teach their classes according to the level of the students present.
Classes begin promptly so be sure to arrive 10 minutes early. Attire varies depending on the class, but unless otherwise indicated, wear comfortable clothes you can move in, such as yoga pants and a t-shirt or tank top, and bare feet or running shoes.
